3-Day Tsingy de Bemaraha Experience from Morondava

There are places in Madagascar that strike you the moment you arrive. The Tsingy of Bemaraha are not among them. Here, a big part of the adventure is simply getting there.

From Morondava, the route crosses some of the most remote areas of western Madagascar. Ferry river crossings, long red dirt tracks, isolated villages and wild landscapes accompany the journey. You need to allow for about 10 hours of driving each way, but very few travellers regret the effort.

At the end of the road, one of Africa’s most extraordinary landscapes appears: a labyrinth of limestone pinnacles soaring skyward, forming the spectacular Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For those seeking adventure, wide-open spaces and a true feeling of exploration, this is one of the most memorable experiences Madagascar has to offer.

Day 1 – From Morondava to Bekopaka

Early morning departure from Morondava.

The road heads north through the most isolated regions of western Madagascar. The first highlight of the day is crossing the mighty Tsiribihina River by ferry – an experience that is already part of the adventure.

The track then continues through savannah, dry forests and small villages where life still follows the rhythm of the seasons.

Further north, a second crossing takes you over the Manambolo River, the natural gateway to the Tsingy region.

Arrival in Bekopaka is usually scheduled for late afternoon.

Dinner and overnight at Olympe de Bemaraha or similar.

Driving time: approx. 10 hours

Overnight: Bekopaka

Day 2 – Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park

After breakfast, set out to discover one of Madagascar’s most breathtaking landscapes.

The visit usually focuses on the famous Petit Tsingy, an incredible maze of limestone formations sculpted by erosion over millions of years. Walkways, trails, suspension bridges and viewpoints allow you to explore this unique mineral universe.

Beyond its spectacular scenery, the park is home to several lemur species, endemic birds, reptiles and vegetation perfectly adapted to this extreme environment.

During the hike, the scenery constantly changes between canyons, dry forests and impressive stone spires.

Return to the hotel in the afternoon for dinner and a second night in Bekopaka.

Overnight: Bekopaka

Day 3 – Bekopaka to Morondava via the Avenue of the Baobabs

After breakfast, the long journey back to Morondava begins.

The crossings of the Manambolo and Tsiribihina once again punctuate the day as the spectacular landscapes of western Madagascar roll by.

Even if the road is long, the final surprise is yet to come.

Arrival in Morondava usually coincides with the best time to visit the legendary Avenue of the Baobabs. As golden sunset light illuminates the giant trunks and their silhouettes stand out against the sky, the spectacle is simply unforgettable.

It is the perfect ending to one of Madagascar’s greatest adventures.

Driving time: approx. 10 hours
