Walk along Nosy Iranja’s white sandbank (the most famous in Madagascar if not the world!) and become acquainted with one of the most picturesque islands nestled away off the NW coast of Madagascar.
Your tour to Nosy Be is not finished without stopping at Nosy Iranja – the most popular island in the archipelago. Not far away, just 90 minutes to 2 hours by boat from Nosy Be, the island is famous for its white sandbank that links two islands during low tide.
Nosy Iranja is one of the prettiest islands in Madagascar, oh yes! Turquoise waters, white sand beaches, coconut palms and calmness – it’s like another world away from busier spots around Nosy Be.
On one island there’s a small fishing village and an old colonial lighthouse, while the other is mostly untouched.
If Nosy Iranja sounds like the tropical island that many travelers were dreaming of on their way to Madagascar, you’re not wrong!
The Experience
Pick up is at approximately 8:00 AM from your hotel in Nosy Be.
Transfer to the embarkation point, then hop on a motorboat for the crossing to Nosy Iranja. This journey does take between 90 minutes to two hours, depending on the conditions at sea.
On your way to the island you start to gradually see the iconic white sandbank. This beautiful strip of white sand joins the two islands at low tide, and forms one of Madagascar’s most photographed scenery.

Take a stroll to the lighthouse that still stands, once highly visible all across the archipelago and the Mozambique Channel. En route, you enter a fishing village that has retained its traditional systems of community life through generations.
Lunch by the sea, free time to swim, walk on the sandbank or simply enjoy one of the most beautiful places in the Nosy Be archipelago.
Return to Nosy Be is carried out in the afternoon with arrival at your hotel usually between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM.
