Beheloka

Beheloka – wild beaches, turquoise lagoons and the spiny forest of south‑western Madagascar

Beheloka lies at the far south‑western tip of Madagascar, near Tsimanampetsotsa National Park, and is one of the most remote and preserved coastal areas in the country. Here, the arid landscapes of the spiny forest meet long wild beaches and turquoise lagoons along the Mozambique Channel.

Unlike other better‑known destinations in the south‑west, Beheloka retains a deeply local atmosphere. Vezo villages still live mainly from fishing, and traditional pirogues rest on the sand between outings. Many travellers combine the beach with a visit to Tsimanampetsotsa National Park, famous for its salt lake, flamingos, baobabs and unique spiny‑forest landscapes.

The coast is wide, quiet and almost empty. At low tide, the lagoon recedes from the shore, creating different shades of blue and green throughout the day. There are no large resorts or nightlife here. The charm of the place lies precisely in its isolation and simplicity.

Beheloka is an ideal destination for those seeking peace, open spaces and an authentic atmosphere. Days are spent swimming, walking along the beach and watching the sunsets as the pirogues return to the village.
